On April 7, ITS Oregon hosted its fourth lunch meeting jointly with the Portland Chapter of Women’s Transportation Seminar and the Oregon Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.   Over 135 attendees listed to James Whitty of ODOT’s Office of Innovative Partnerships and Alternative Funding present the results of Oregon’s mileage fee pilot program.

ITS America is pleased to offer Professional Development Hours (PDHs) to attendees of ITS America’s 2009 Annual Meeting and Exposition, June 1-3, 2009 in National Harbor, MD.  Many engineering and related licensure and certification agencies around the world require the demonstration of continuing professional competency that is met by the range of technical, scientific, executive, special, interactive, and plenary sessions you attend.  Attendees can earn up to 17.5 PDHs through their participation at the Annual Meeting.

Remember that you will need to save your record of attendance and the entire Final Program of the 2009 Annual Meeting and Exposition for your records should the licensure or certification agency request information from you. Reporting is done on an honor basis, and members are responsible for maintaining their own records.

ITS Washington announces the return of its Annual Meeting to be held at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue on November 12th.

There are a total of eight information packed sessions planned, with a diverse group of presenters and panel members from throughout the Puget Sound region and state. The focus of this year’s annual meeting will be
ITS applications and systems, and their influence on operations within the traffic and transit environments. Topics will include Traffic Management Centers – Lessons Learned, Regional Arterial Operations, Wireless Communications for ITS Applications, Transit ITS Applications on the horizon, Bus Rapid Transit Station and System Design, Tolling and Congestion Management, Traveler Information Systems, and Wired Communications for ITS Applications.

On September 26, ITS Oregon hosted its second lunch meeting, with a presentation on ITS at TriMet. Over 50 attendees enjoyed pizza and soft drinks while learning about many of TriMet’s ITS applications from ITS Oregon member David Crout. Randy Knapick from IBI Group joined in the presentation and discussed some newer transit ITS tools that are becoming available in the marketplace.

NRITS promises to provide a variety of networking opportunities and time with vendors to help you develop in your professional career. Training will provide the transportation professional with cost effective professional development hours.

The NRITS Planning Committee invites you to submit an abstract for presentation at the conference. The abstract submission deadline is February 16, 2009. Download the call for abstracts from the NRITS website.

The conference has plenty of nearby, family fun activities including aquariums, shopping, a boardwalk along the beach, kite flying, and amusement rides – not to mention the publicly owned beaches and beautiful Pacific Ocean. Join us Sunday, August 23rd for golfing at Gearhart Golf Links–one of the oldest courses on the West Coast–and a bonfire on the beach.

ITS Washington, CH2M Hill, PSRC, PTV and Jacobs will sponsor a session entitled “Supporting Infrastructure Decision Making with Simulations” on October 15, 2008 from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm. The session will be held at the Center for Urban Horticulture on the University of Washington Campus. Free parking is available.
